The Paradox of Freedom

monthlymondaypoetrysmaller-1

The Paradox of Freedom

Surrounded by a sea of people celebrating liberty

Little could they see that they are bound in slavery.

In the light of the day

The darkness was still their way.

Decked in red, white, and blue

Holding their favorite brew,

They are enslaved

Not knowing that they need to be saved.

Their bodies are unshackled

Their souls are chained.

Yet they don’t understand.

In the land of the brave and the free

So many are living in captivity.

Those of us who have been released,

Will we stay silent while our brothers decease?

Justice

monthlymondaypoetrysmaller-1

I’ve had a crazy time lately with grad parties and school and such so I just dug this out of my collections of poems for this month. This is somewhat old so it’s not the best, but I have a fond spot in my heart for it. I hope you enjoy and remember to check back at Abigails blog  for other great poems.

Injustice overflows from all walk of life.

From owning slaves to taking the unborn’s rights.

The littlest thing to the biggest cruelty

It’s all the same if you think of it truly.

We stand by day to day

Never daring to get in someone’s way.

We have grown cold

To the abuse of young and old.

Because in our minds there is no true wrong.

We have been hypnotized by the alluring song.

That we are all okay,

Is the lie that they all loudly say.

So what about murder and all the pain?

Is it okay to ignore the slain?

Is it fine to look past the hurt?

It is acceptable to brush off all the dirt?

Can we ignore?

Can we go on like before?

When injustice pounds at our door?

Will we let it in?

Will we not stand up and therefore sin?

Will we let injustice in our own homes begin?

Not I.

I will not let the evil slip by.

I will stand up and fight.

I will not wait for another night.

This is a call to arms

Against those who do much harm.

Don’t sit there staring,

Answer the call that is blaring.

Hope in A Stranger’s Eyes

She smiles as she dances to and fro
Around her do her dresses flow
Her Amma and Pitaa surrounded her with love
Yet in her future was pain undreamed of
In one instance it was all gone
Her parents from this world were withdrawn
Alone and afraid
There soon came a promise to be paid
Her grandfather consented
But little did he know the girl’s body would be rented
A promise of work
Turned into years of hurt
More alone then before
Hope was left at the door
As she was abused time and time again
She was bound in her mind by chains
Soon all her innocence was taken
All of what she knew as right was shaken
The light left her once alive eyes
She was now a zombie with no left life inside
The years past in silence and abuse
There was nothing more to lose
No reason to go on
No sign of a dawn
Then one day she saw a glimpse of hope
In the eyes of a stranger she found strength to cope
There was something different and something magnificent
About the joy that was seen in the strangers’ existence
Something about this stranger gave her hope to go on
A hope for a dawn
Soon was coming a way of escape
In the long day that the brothel was raid
In the midst of chaos she knew there was hope
Finally released from the surrounding darkness
Finally released from her chains
Yet something deep inside still remained.
The hurt and guilt and pain
She thought they would never go away
The scars that she had on her young heart
She feared deeply would never part
She was soon brought away
To a place she knew would be safe
Again she saw the stranger and was surprise
And this time she had a chance to ask about that joy inside
In passionate tones the woman explained
About freedom in Christ and the sacrifice He made
About the blood He shed so she could have life
And how for her soul He paid the costliest price
Wonder struck the girl as she realized the truth in those words
Eagerly she embraced
This God full of mercy
This God full of grace
She let go on her hate and her guilt that clung
To her soul and let it fall
Unto the shoulders of her risen God
She became a follower of her Savior body and soul
She finally found a way to be whole
Now many years later she’s back on the street
Sharing her Jesus will all that she meets
Because of one stranger that showed her God’s love
Now she’s become that stranger and is a servant of the Lord above

April Poetry: Untitled Musings

monthlymondaypoetrysmaller-1

Here is my poetry for this month. I wrote this in early March after being inspired by this article by Leslie Ludy (Note: this article is very blunt about sexual sins in men so use discretion before reading.) May God bless you all and I have some posts that are formulating in my mind right now so come back soon! (Also, I’m horrible at naming poems and such so if you have any ideas let me know!)

Purity mocked,

Holiness scoffed,

They shout us lies

Telling us to compromise

“Freedom in Christ” they proclaim

And so trample His perfect name

Don’t they know we are to sin no more?

If they do the don’t care and after their gods they whore

They say that to Him they belong

But yet they worship their own gods

The flattery from pagan

Is joy in their hearts

Their selfish desires

Do not want to part

The horrible perversion

They bring to the holy place

The have totally forgotten

The true meaning of grace.

Yahweh has called us

We must obey

To live different than this fallen world

To live holy everyday.

God’s standards are high

For those whom with Him identify

If He has saved us from the pits of hell

Let us rise up and serve Him well

If we are set apart spirit and soul

Then He can begin to make us whole.

The Call (Monthly Poetry Challenge)

Before I post my poetry, I need to mention how I was inspired for this poem. My dear friend Abigail’s mom, Lynnette Kraft, wrote a wonderful book that I am currently reading entitled In Faithfulness He Afflicted Me. It’s about her personal story of loosing three of her nine children. In one part of the book she talks about how after the second time she experienced the death of a son she was talking to a friend and she talked about how we should look at trials like God is asking us, “will you, my servant, go through this hard thing in order that I may get glory?”. That really made me think about how we are to look at trials. This poem is my meditations of that. (Note: I should have a post out in the next few days talking about having a heart like Isaiah rather than Jonah. Keep your eyes out for that.)

Standing before God’s holy throne

His glory, I behold

Full and alive

Too much for my small eyes

The angels bow in praise

And I fall on my face

“Behold, I am unclean

I don’t deserve for you to look on me

I should be struck down

For your holiness is renown”

He looks at me and says, “rise”

“I need a servant that wont compromise

Who may I find to complete this task?

Of bringing me glory by doing all that I ask?

The trials they face will be tough

But am I not more than enough?”

“Lord use me!” I beg in reply

“I will serve you and not your name deny

Whatever you say, whatever you have me do

I will be devoted to you.”

“Then take on this affliction

This thorn in your side

Keep remembering that I’ll never say goodbye

Bring my glory, by this testing of faith

Be my ambassador to that sinful place

I will afflict you,

But you will stay strong

For I am Yahweh and I am you God.

Monthly Poetry Challenge: February

Photobucket

Well my dear blog friend Abigail has started a monthly poetry blogging challenge that I decided to take her offer up on. I write a little bit of poetry and have always liked it, I just often lack motivation and such. But now I will be posting a piece of original poetry the first Monday of every month. I am really excited for this and the chance to practice my poetry. Now I will warn you that I am still learning and it’s not very good yet (in my opinion). But I hope that the Lord will work through my inabilities and that He will get the glory. Soli Deo Gloria!

I hear the words whispered gently to me,

“Surrender my daughter and you will be free”

Why do I resist and not believe?

When it’s been you all along that’s carried me?

I think to myself that you are not big enough

That this belongs to me and no one else

How dare you take away my dreams?

How dare you take away what my life means?

This is who I am

This is life to me

Then you gently whisper words of truth

“Give your life into my hands

I am good and I have a plan

It may be bigger then what you can see

It may be beyond your own reasoning

But wait,

Just wait,

For there is nothing beyond my reach

I am in control of every last thing

Never fear my daughter

For I love you more then the stars

So trust me with you heart”

I cry out these words tonight,

“You alone are my life!

You alone are my light!

My portion and supply

Until the very day I die”
